                                                                     Letter Of Recommendation

It is a distinct pleasure to recommend to you my esteemed business associate and long time friend Rahul. In my capacity as Project Manager of Java Technology Head at ITA InfoTech I have worked closely with Rahul for more than two years.
As Technical lead of PBA project Rahul has managed the design of high level and low level documents for Qantas airlines. His work has been a major factor in our company’s continued success in the aviation and airline components industry.
He has proven consistently that customer need and company profits are not mutually exclusive. Like most IT Software businesses, our company is organized into functions. Engineering interacts with virtually all of them. There are natural tensions between the functions which if not managed correctly can prove disastrous. Rahul has always understood the old axiom that we rise or fall together and has made teamwork with others job number one for his department.

I can remember the nature of our weekly management meetings one year ago before Rahul arrived.
We would spend most of the allotted two hours pointing fingers at each other any time problems needed to be solved. When Rahul came on board the meetings changed dramatically. He showed us all how to get beyond the blame game.

Rahul has a zest for life and has a variety of interests. He can relate to people in many ways and on many levels, and would have made a great technical architect. In fact, Rahul’s technical skills have saved the day for on more than one occasion.

A particularly difficult account springs to mind. It was a company run by a hard-boiled individual that neither I nor any of our technical people could ever seem to get close to and consequently could never deliver much to. We asked Rahul to join us on a call to this difficult customer. In the course of the business meeting Rahul noticed a picture of the man beaming with pride as he stood next to a young woman in a basketball uniform. William asked about the picture and then struck up a long conversation about the subtleties of women’s basketball and what turned out to be the man’s daughter. To make a long story short we left hours later with new business in an account that has grown to be our fourth largest.

I could continue on with more glowing accounts of Rahul, but will instead simply say that I really do think the world of him and respect him greatly. I am quite sure that his well rounded experience under my guidance will enhance your repute and values. I would strongly recommend him for an admission to your Graduate program preferably with financial aid and Assistant ship that you may have to offer to a deserving student. He would be a tremendous asset in any company.

  1. Hello

Thank you so much for providing a sample of the letter. I would like to know if I am applying in 10 universities, I would require 10 copies of the letter ( with respective university name mentioned on it).

So in total i have to get 10 copies signed from employers or professors. Or is it sufficient to get 3-4 signed and send xerox of those to other universities.

  2. Companies provide only 1 letter head. Cannot ask for 7-8 letterheads for a single document which are against company policies. In such a case, taking copies is inevitable. But signature can be authentic.

  3. And If unfortunately, I couldn’t get company envelops .. then how can I submit my LOR..?

    1. Its ok, You can also have on a simple letterhead, even a simple A4 paper will do. Nowadays the uni are accepting all materials online

  4. Would it be an added benefit if i can get 4 LORs (2 from College Professors, 1 from Employer and 1 from Customer of my Employer based outside of India)?

  5. Hello All,

I’m working as DBA from last 8 years.
Can i give all 3 LOR from my previous or current employer.

Its been 8 years – i’ve left college. Or do i need LOR from college atleast?

    1. IF you are applying for a Practical course like MIS or Software engineering, all LORs from employer are okay, but if your course is research bases, at least 2 LORs from your professors are recommended

    1. It is recommended but not mandatory. If the email id used by your manager is company’s mail id, then it’s okay.

  6. Is it ok if the Manager just uploads the pdf of the recommendation letter(Not on the Compny Letterhead) from his official Email Id, Without actually signing it?

  7. Hi,
I have my manager sitting in Bangalore and I wanted a recommendation from him. Since he is at a very higher position I cannot expect him to sign a hard copy that i will courier him from here. So is it fine if he just approves the letter and uploads it on the university portal using company mail id? Also does he need to sign it before uploading, because I don’t want to give him much trouble of printing scanning or posting it.

  8. Hi what if i need a reco from a manager non more works for the company but know me well as we hv had worked together … Will his be anle to write from his personal email id do in this case ?

    1. Does he have a Great LinkedIn profile? First of all get their recommendation there! The unviersity won’t cross check but it helps!

Secondly, ask them to send it through their current company email address and mention in their LOR that you both used to work for the same company sometime back.

  9. my graduation marks are not so good, but my MBA marks are very good. for this reason arise any issue for my usa study??

  10. my college professors do not have official college e-mail id.
Is it acceptable if they use their personal email ids?

    1. Hi Kavya,

Yes it is acceptable, but tell them to be prepared in case further inquiries are made by the grad admissions committee
