In my last post, I talked about some of the most prestigious research universities in Germany. After the post, we received several queries regarding the admission procedures and standardized tests required for admission in German Universities.
So, Is GRE compulsory for Ms in Germany ?
While the general rule of thumb is that GRE is not mandatory for admission to German Graduate programs, things are changing quite fast and GRE is definitely one of the recommended tests for Admission to Masters or Doctorate education in Germany.
While the proof of English Proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS) is absolutely necessary to secure an admit in any tier 1 Germany university, the same is not true for the GRE exam. Some German universities look at the academics and the personal statement and waive off the GRE exam. It is especially true in case of Indian students who have a good score in the GATE exam.
However, having a good GRE score can improve your overall profile and it is certainly advisable that you give GRE so that overall application remains strong not only for German but even universities in other countries.
To Sum up :
Is GRE compulsory for Ms in Germany : NO
Is it recommended : Yes
